Gran Canaria is the second largest island of the Canary Islands with a population of 838,397 inhabitants and is located southeast of Tenerife and west of Fuerteventura. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and is located approximately 150 kilometers off the northwest coast of Africa. The capital is Las Palmas which was founded in 1478.
Gran Canaria is known for its rich variety of micro climates. The average daytime temperatures fluctuate between 20° C in winter to 26° C in summer. This island is known as “the continent in miniature” due to the different climates and the great variation in its landscapes. The beaches are white sand and contrast with the green ravines and picturesque towns. One third of the island is under UNESCO protection. Most tourists visit the southern part of the island. The North tends to be cooler while the South is warmer and sunnier.
There is a wide variety of activities in Gran Canaria. From water activities such as swimming, surfing, windsurfing, diving, fishing and sailing to land activities such as golf, hiking and mountain biking. Visitors will also find a wide variety of beauty centers and spas.
